Anesthesia for Veterinary Surgery
When it comes time for your pet to undergo a surgical or dental procedure, the Vida Veterinary Care team works closely with you and your pet to ensure that they are fully prepared for their surgery and that they are as comfortable as possible during their experience. In order to ensure that anesthesia is safe for your pet, we provide the following:
A consultation and physical examination prior to the surgery to ensure that your pet is healthy enough for the procedure and to answer any questions you may have
A pre-surgical blood test to be certain there are no underlying disease processes
Careful, consistent monitoring of your pet’s vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate/rhythm, temperature, oxygen/CO2 saturation, and respiratory rate during and after surgery
Medications to help alleviate pain
Pre-surgical x-rays, ultrasounds, or EKGs, if deemed necessary
During your pet’s surgical procedure, they will remain safe under close observation at all times. When your pet is in need of surgery, please ask us about your anesthesia concerns and we will be happy to answer your questions. Rest assured, the Vida Veterinary Care team provides gentle care to each of our patients as though they were our own pets.
The Vida Veterinary Care team is committed to offering the very best to our patients. For this reason, we utilize the advanced CO2 surgical laser, a safe alternative to the traditional scalpel in many surgical applications. The CO2 laser is known for its accuracy and effectiveness in helping patients to heal quicker from their surgeries. It is able to make precise incisions without excessive invasion.
The Benefits of the Surgical Laser
As with all of the technology we utilize at our animal hospital, we make every effort to use tools that have been proven effective in veterinary medicine. We use the surgical laser because it has been shown to:
Cause faster recovery
Decrease pain during and after surgery
Decrease post-surgical swelling
If your pet is in need of a surgery, our team can talk with you about the possibility of utilizing the surgical laser. We will be happy to educate you on our recommendations, ensuring that you have the information you need to make decisions about your pet’s care. Contact us today to discuss your pet’s surgical needs with our team.
At Vida Veterinary Care, we provide orthopedic care for pets who have suffered from an ACL injury. ACL injuries or tears are common in dogs of all sizes, breeds, and activity levels, but are most often the result of an athletic activity or caused by obesity.
What is a Ruptured ACL?
An ACL is the ligament that connects the femur and tibia and it can tear due to a variety of incidents, whether arthritis, falls, strenuous physical activity, athletic activity involving sharp turns, and more. If a torn ACL is not treated, the result can be improper healing which can make even the simplest of daily activities difficult. If you notice your pet limping or having difficulty putting pressure on a limb, please contact our team immediately for medical attention.
What Does ACL Surgery Involve?
After a thorough evaluation of your pet’s injury, our veterinarians will discuss your pet’s options with you. There are several surgical options for ACL repair and we will work with you to determine the best course of action for your pet’s particular needs. When appropriate, we use the services of an orthopedic specialist, allowing you and your pet to stay at Vida Veterinary Care where things are familiar.
After surgery, we will guide you through the step-by-step process of your pet’s recovery, from physical therapy exercises to pain medication. We provide educational materials to teach you about your pet’s condition and needs as well as options so that you can choose the best course of action for your four-legged friend.
